Buncombe County And The City Of Asheville Announce Closure And Service Changes Due To Holiday 

This week, the City of Asheville and Buncombe County announced closure and service changes to celebrate the Christmas and New Years Holidays. 

 

 

Here are the changes announced by Buncombe County:  

  • Buncombe County Government offices will be closed Dec. 24-26 and Jan. 1 for the winter holidays. FCC Environmental, the landfill, and the transfer station will adjust schedules. 

  • FCC Environmental trash and recycling collection services will not operate on Thursday, Dec. 25. Thursday pickups will collect on Friday and Friday customers will have collection on Saturday. FCC will operate on a one-day delay for customers with Thursday pickups on Jan. 1. 

  • All Buncombe County Public Libraries will be closed Dec. 24-27 and Jan. 1. The digital library is always available at www.buncombenc.gov/library. Libraries begin their new operating hours on Jan. 2! Click here to see the complete schedule. 

 

Here are the changes announced by the City of Asheville  

  • Asheville Rides Transit (ART) holiday schedule will be as follows: 

  • Service will be closed after 6:30 p.m. December 24 (Christmas Eve) 

  • No service on December 25 (Christmas Day) 

  • The Sanitation Office will be closed December 24-26. 

  • Carrier Park’s ballfield, playground, skate rink, and courts are closed, but the picnic shelter, parking lot, wetland areas, velodrome, and the portion of French Broad River Greenway that runs through the park are open. 

  • All community centers and administrative offices are closed December 24 – 26 and January 1. Outdoor park features such as playgrounds, picnic areas, and sports courts adjacent to community center buildings are open from 6 a.m. – 10 p.m. 

  • All public safety services, including police, fire, and emergency response, will operate on their normal schedule – 24 hours a day, seven days a week. 

  • Staff will be available for water-related emergencies 24 hours a day over the holiday weekend. Customers can call the customer service line at (828) 251-1122 to report water-related emergencies, leaks, breaks, and non-water calls. Maintenance crews remain on standby to respond to outages and other emergencies. Water treatment plants will remain fully staffed.
