North Carolina Ports Receive Clean Audit From State Auditor’s Office
Today, the North Carolina Office of State Auditor released its annual audit of North Carolina’s Port Authority. The report says it’s a “clean” audit with no major issues uncovered by the independent investigators. The audit examined $132 million in revenue with $81 million in expenses.
State Auditor Dave Boliek said, “North Carolina’s ports – owned and operated by the North Carolina State Ports Authority – provide vital logistics services that ensure products can arrive and leave our state efficiently. The employees who work at our Wilmington and Morehead City ports, alongside numerous private industry partners, move tons of goods that range from electronics to produce found on grocery shelves.
With recent investment from the North Carolina General Assembly, our ports have increased capacity and efficiency. In addition to moving hundreds of thousands of shipping containers for shipment, the ports move containers by rail to Charlotte and Chicago as well. Our ports have strategic petroleum facilities and traditional cargo operations that support business needs across multiple sectors of the economy.
I’d like to thank North Carolina State Ports Authority staff and leadership for working with our team as we conducted this financial statement audit.”
