After Landmark Supreme Court Ruling, Sen. Blackburn Calls On Tennessee Legislature To Redistrict Congressional Lines
This week, after the United States Supreme Court released its landmark decision that limited the demand for minority-majority districts. Senator Marsha Blackburn, the leading Republican candidate for Governor, called on the Tennessee legislature to reconvene and redistrict Tennessee’s Congressional Map.
Sen. Blackburn said, “I urge our state legislature to reconvene to redistrict another Republican seat in Memphis. It’s essential to cement President Trump’s agenda and the Golden Age of America. I’ve vowed to keep Tennessee a red state, and as Governor, I’ll do everything I can to make this map a reality.
Recent polling shows that Blackburn has a commanding lead in the race for Governor. Tennessee’s Congressional delegation currently has eight Republicans and one Democrat, overall, the state voted for President Donald Trump by 64.2%, while Harris only received 34.5% of the vote. Under the previous interpretation of the Voting Rights Act, Tennessee was required to use racial data to carve out a majority-minority district anchored in Memphis. The Supreme Court’s decision removes this demand, allowing Tennessee to draw a map that would likely elect nine Republicans.
