ANALYSIS: NC House Takes Actions to Crack Down on Illegal Immigration, As Local Police Foil Alleged Kidnapping Plot by Illegal Aliens
Last week, the North Carolina House considered a number of measures to crack down on illegal immigration, and two bills passed the chamber. At the same time, local police in Garner North Carolina foiled a ransom plot allegedly committed by individuals who now have ICE detainers.
What happened in Garner…
Garner Police say that the three suspects breached the home shortly before 11 pm wearing ski masks and brandishing firearms. The suspects demanded a million dollars for the man living there, and when he couldn’t pay, they abducted his wife and infant. The Garner Police responded and issued an Amber Alert. For reasons unknown, the wife and infant were found safe in Wake Forest after alerting a local resident to their situation.
Last Wednesday, police arrested two individuals, Paula Duran Duran and Miguel Duran, on kidnapping charges. Immigration and Customs Enforcement issued a detainer request for both of these individuals, identifying them as Mexican citizens who were here illegally. Thursday morning, the FBI arrested Eleodoro Estrada-Hernadez on kidnapping charges, possession of a firearm by a felon, and two counts of pointing a firearm.
This case has yet to go to trial, and the police are still withholding details, but by all accounts, it looks like a foiled kidnapping plot conducted by three illegal aliens.
What the North Carolina House is doing…
The North Carolina House passed two pieces of legislation last week and is still considering some additional bills this week.
House Bill 317 The Criminal Illegal Alien Enforcement Act. This legislation increased the required cooperation between local sheriffs and federal immigration officials. Helping to reduce dangerous catch-and-release policies.
House Bill 261 Sentence Enhancement/ Immigration-Related Crimes. This legislation enhances the sentencing guidelines for individuals who are found guilty of a serious crime in North Carolina and here illegally.
FLASHBACK: The North Carolina Senate passed legislation this March to crack down on illegal immigration in North Carolina. Senate Bill 153 North Carolina Border Protection Act requires state officials to cooperate with the Trump administration in enforcing immigration policy.
Tim’s Take: Republicans in the General Assembly continue to pass legislation that the vast majority of Americans agree with. While progressives and their media allies think it's controversial to remove illegal aliens who have committed additional crimes on American soil, the American people writ large are broadly supportive of this type of policy.
