As State Government Shutdown Looms, Virginia Democrat Infighting Intensifies

After the 2024 election, Virginia Democrats secured full control of the Virginia General Assembly and retook the Governor’s mansion. Despite full control over the lawmaking process, Virginia Democrats failed to pass a budget by the close of the legislative session, over two months ago. Now, the Commonwealth of Virginia may shutdown at the end of June, unless Virginia Democrats resolve their internal policy disputes. But right now, they are openly brawling on X.

Yesterday, the leader of the Virginia Senate, Democrat Louise Lucas went on a long tirade attacking her fellow Democrats. Notably, Lucas made headlines as the FBI raided her businesses, which the New York Times reports may be related to a corruption investigation.

Here is what Lucas said about her fellow Democrat leaders:

Congresswoman Jen Kiggans observed, “Virginia is headed toward the first partial government shutdown in our Commonwealth’s history because of Democrat dysfunction and failed leadership. Democrats in the General Assembly adjourned in April from their session without reaching a budget agreement — even while prioritizing some of the most radical legislation in the country. Weeks later, Virginians still have no answers, no certainty, and no evidence that meaningful progress has been made. The budget deadline is June 30…. We will be watching….!!”
