As State Government Shutdown Looms, Virginia Democrats Begin Publicly Campaigning Against Each Other Over Budget Differences

This week, Governor Abigail Spanberger (D-VA) sent a strong statement in support of the budget proposal from the Democrat controlled House of Delegates. In response, Democrat Senate Leader Louise Lucas released a letter expressing her strong disagreement with the budget proposal from Democrats in the House.

The Democrat controlled chambers failed to pass a budget when they were in regular session: 90 days ago. The House is scheduled to meet on June 18 and the Senate on June 22 to take up their budgets. The central controversy in the budget is a disagreement over continuing the data center tax exemption in place.

In addition to her stated disagreement, Lucas is holding several campaign-style events across the Commonwealth to raise awareness about the objections they have with the budget.

And finally, Lucas finally told the truth about Spanberger when she posted:

Tim’s Take: Given the public posturing of these individuals, it is now functionally a game of chicken to see if the House and the Governor of the Senate will blink. The public nature of the debate means that there will be public winners and losers. But the real losers will be the state employees impacted by Democrat dysfunction.
