At Cabarrus County Stop, Republican Candidate Michael Whatley Highlights Democrat Cooper’s Dangerous Soft-On-Crime Record

Last week, at a Cabarrus County campaign stop, Republican Senate candidate Michael Whatley, along with law enforcement leaders, called out Democrat candidate former Governor Roy Cooper’s dangerous soft-on-crime record. Whatley and the other speakers highlighted Cooper’s decision to release over 4,200 convicts back into North Carolina communities early. Of those convicted criminals, nearly 50% were charged with additional crimes, including murder and sexual assault.  

"There are 25 seats at dinner tables across North Carolina that will forever be empty because of Roy Cooper. His reckless release of more than 4,200 hardened criminals from prison placed North Carolinians in jeopardy, including 25 who were killed as a result. Roy Cooper failed at his most basic job of keeping North Carolinians safe, and the blood of these victims is on his hands,” said Michael Whatley. 

Whatley was joined by Cabarrus County Sheriff Van Shaw, Stanly County Sheriff Jeff Crisco, Senator Brad Overcash (R-NC), Representative Brian Echevarria (R-NC), and Representative Grant Campbell (R-NC).
