City of Asheville Announces Completion of Two Infrastructure Projects On Patton Avenue

Yesterday, the City of Asheville announced the completion of two major infrastructure projects on Patton Avenue. “The completion of these projects demonstrates the City of Asheville’s continued dedication to investing in infrastructure that is safe, accessible, and resilient,” said Amy Deyton, Interim Public Works Director.

  • The city completed the Carter-Ann-Patton Stormwater improvement project. The city installed new stormwater inlets, a pipe network, resurfaced pavement, and improved other parts of the city. These upgrades should reduce chronic flooding and drainage issues at the intersections of Patton, Carter, Ann, Clingman, and French Broad Streets.

    • “With the stormwater upgrades on Carter, Ann, and Patton the City has tackled years‑long drainage challenges and improved safety for all roadway users,” said Derek Wainscott, Stormwater Division Manager “The improved drainage and pavement is an advancement for downtown flash flood resilience.”

  • The second project that was completed was Patton Avenue Sidewalk Accessibility Improvements. The city public works department upgrade the sidewalks alongside Patton Avenue between Asheland and Coxe Avenues. These upgrades address tripping hazards and provide easier access, particularly for individuals with disabilities.

    • “The new sidewalks and ramps reflect Asheville’s commitment to accessibility and pedestrian safety,” said Chad Bandy, Streets Division Manager. “These upgrades ensure our sidewalks meet ADA standards and support vibrant business activity along Patton Avenue.”
