Cooper Called Requiring Voter “Sinister” But Requires ID For His Campaign Events
Former Governor Roy Cooper, the Democrat nominee for the United States Senate in the North Carolina, has been a longtime opponent of securing elections with common-sense voter ID laws. But on the campaign trail, Cooper requires voter ID for attendees of his campaign events.
An invitation from the Cooper campaign clearly shows that the campaign required attendees to show an ID in order to attend the event in Gaston County. According to the official campaign guest invitation and arrival instructions, “please be ready to show an ID that matches our RSVP list.”
But Roy Cooper remains an ardent opponent of voter identification to securing American elections.
Cooper opposed the SAVE Act, which would require voter ID for federal elections.

During the campaign, Cooper went on MS Now to spread blatant lies about the SAVE America Act, saying: “We know that we have seen from the right particularly intensified actions in the name of voter security that in effect keep eligible American citizens from voting.”
However, during the primary this March, Cooper showed how easy it was to show his identification and cast a ballot.
North Carolinians overwhelmingly support requiring voter ID and proof of citizenship to vote. Polling shows 92% of Republicans, 60% of Independents, and 50% of Democrats in the state support the SAVE America Act. In fact, polling shows that 66% of Democrat Socialists, Cooper’s key political allies, support voter ID measures.
