Despite Improvements in Independent Monitor Report, Anti-Trump Attorney General Jeff Jackson Plans to Continue Litigation Against Hospital

The Carolina Public Press recently reported that Attorney General Jeff Jackson “agrees” with the independent monitor report, so he plans to continue the litigation against Mission Hospital.

Background on Jackson: Attorney General Jackson is most well known as a Democrat Tik Tok influencer. He first rose to prominence when he missed the memo and showed up at the General Assembly on a snow day, so he decided to conduct a publicity stunt. Eventually, Jackson was elected to Congress in a Democrat-leaning district, where he remained laser-focused on growing his brand on TikTok, despite the national security risks. After redistricting made his seat more competitive, Jackson decided to run for Attorney General. In 2024, Jackson rode Governor Stein’s coattails to eke out a narrow victory.

Since being elected, Jackson has focused on leveraging the legal system to oppose the Trump administration, often joining lawsuits against Trump with liberal states like California and New York.

Lawsuit Against HCA: Earlier this year, Jackson confirmed that he planned to continue the lawsuit against HCA over the ambiguous language in the asset purchase agreement. And in the latest article, Jackson says he “agrees” with the independent monitor report.

Here is the thing, the independent monitor report largely showed that Mission Hospital followed the agreement. Mission resolved two issues of potential non-compliance from the previous report.

The remaining issue is being litigated between the Attorney General’s office and HCA in regard to emergency care and oncology services. The dispute is rather technical. HCA maintains that they are still providing adequate levels of care, while the Attorney General’s office alleges that additional types of care need to be provided.

During the media availably with the independent monitor, the investors admitted that the asset purchase agreement has ambiguous language and that Mission Health has a robust emergency Room department. This case receives enormous amount of media attention, over an issue that is largely technical.

What’s Really Going On: Both Stein and Jackson need to appease the radical left to avoid a primary challenge and that’s why they are pushing this lawsuit. The Carolina Press article, like almost every article from left leaning outlets, feature Reclaim Healthcare “advocacy.” Their goal is to undo HCA’s acquisition of Mission Health, and they continue to push talking points to inflame the conversation.

These activists pushed Buncombe County Commissioners to “neither oppose nor support” Mission Hospitals plan to upgrade its Trauma center. And they will continue to push Democrat politicians, like Jackson, to attack Mission Hospital in pursuit of their goal, which may prove to be a net negative for healthcare outcomes for the region.
