John Lowery Appointed To Fill NC State House Vacancy
The Robeson County Republican Party Executive Committee unanimously recommended that Governor Josh Stein appoint John L. Lowery to complete the remainder of the unexpired term of State Representative Jarrod Lowery in House District 47. Jarrod Lowery vacated his seat to take a position within the Trump administration. When a vacancy occurs in the North Carolina General Assembly, the local county political party is responsible for recommending a replacement that the Governor officially appoints.
“I am thrilled to see John Lowery be selected as our next State Representative,” said Dr. Phillip Stephens, Chairman of Robeson County Republican Party. “His years of experience serving in tribal, state, and federal government and delivering for the residents of Robeson County make him an exceptionally prepared choice. I look forward to seeing him serve out the remainder of Representative Lowery’s term at the General Assembly.”
John L. Lowery is a lifelong resident of Robeson County and brings decades of service with tribal, state, and local government. He currently serves as the 7th Chairman of the Lumbee Tribe Council of North Carolina. He graduated from UNC Pembrook with a degree in Political Science and American Indican Studies, and he later obtained a Masters of Public Administration from UNC Chapel Hill.
Lowery starts his professional life as a civics teacher in Robeson County Public Schools. He then worked at the U.S. Department of Agriculture helping expand federal programs for Native American farmers and rural communities and worked with the N.C. Department of Commerce where he to drive economic development. Since 2022, Lowery has served as the Chairman of the Lumbee Tribe of North Carolina, helping promote educational opportunities, secure millions in state funding for cultural and economic projects, and strengthen partnerships with state and business leaders.
N.C. State Senator Danny Britt said, “I have had the honor of not only serving alongside Majority Leader Jones, but also with Representative Jarrod Lowery. Though I am sad to see Jarrod leave the General Assembly, I know that John Lowery is exactly the proven leader that Robeson County needs representing District 47 in Raleigh. I’ve worked alongside John for years and have seen firsthand his commitment to conservative values and delivering real results for Robeson County families. John will play a key role in continuing the important work started by Majority Leader Jones, myself and former Representative Lowery in securing critical funding for UNCP, Robeson County schools, public safety, infrastructure, and local projects. I look forward to working closely with him to ensure Robeson County continues to receive the attention and investment it deserves.”
NC House Majority Leader Brenden Jones said, “I look forward to working with Representative-designate John Lowery. He will join us as a valuable member of our caucus and be able to contribute right away."
