Speaker Mike Johnson Campaigns For Laurie Buckhout In Craven County
This Thursday, Speaker of the House Mike Johnson spoke at a rally to support Col. Laurie Buckhout, who is the Republican nominee for North Carolina’s First Congressional District. Speaker Johnson was joined by local state legislators, Congressman Pete Stauber from Minnesota, and Congressman Mike Haridoplos from Florida.
At the rally, Buckhout said, “A vote for Don Davis is a vote to make Hakeem Jeffries Speaker of the House. It is that simple. And that means all the good things we've been enjoying come to a restricting halt. And it also means that this land that many of us have fought for can very quickly fall into the hands of socialists.”
She closed out saying, “This is not about me. Every mission that I went on in the military was won by the people around me and beside me. It was never won by me. I just happened to be the person in front; the people who fought and won were the people around me. And that's you.”
Speaker Johnson opened his remarks saying, “Here's your prediction: in 19 days, North Carolina's first district is going to elect their first Republican in Congress. And we're going to win. So I was in South Texas, down at the very tip of the bottom; I got out of Texas right on the border, and we moved down to Maine, and we campaigned up there with all the pain. We were trying to flip a new district to red, as we're going to do here in North Carolina. And then you went to Virginia, where you were going for a little second and nonstop. Of all the places I've been around the country, there are fewer, more corporations than the one that we're involved in. Right here, in your backyard. Let me tell you, this is the most important midterm in the history of the United States.”
He continued, “We're tracking 22 races that will decide the fate of America. No hyperbole, that's what's at stake. Now, I'll just name some races. Everybody's watching, everybody's invested in them, everybody is calculating how they go, how they move, what the total turnout is. Of those 22 seats, you can rank them in importance. This race right here is a top-five race in America right now.”
Johnson concluded, saying, “Laura, thanks for fighting for our freedom. It's serious. The nation will not have the same liberty, opportunity, and security that we have now. Sadly, too often taken for granted. There is nobody in this facility today who takes people for granted. So the way you show it, and the way you defend it, and the way you pass it along to our children and grandchildren is you vote; you get your friends and family to vote; you get people in church to vote. You cannot take them for granted. You're not going to do it in North Carolina. We're going to win. USA! USA! USA!”
