Meet Jason Simmons Candidate for NCGOP Chair
This profile of Jason Simmons is based on an interview with Chairman Simmons and additional research about the candidate.
Who is Jason and why did he make North Carolina home?
Simmons grew up as an Army brat, moving across the country. Over fourteen years ago, Jason moved to North Carolina to make it home.
Why is he running for NC GOP Chair?
“We stand at a critical juncture for our state party. We delivered for President Trump a third time in 2024. The Golden Age of America is underway, and North Carolina is on the verge of becoming a reliable Red State. The state party now must be a trusted partner to support President Trump’s America First agenda, our expanded Congressional delegation, and elected Republicans across all 100 counties. I’m running for re-election, and I’m asking for your vote on June 7th at the NCGOP State Convention. The work to secure victories in 2026 and 2028 begins now. This is our time to grow our state Republican Party, deliver for North Carolina families, and WIN.”
Connection to the MAGA movement:
Simmons served as President Trump’s state director for North Carolina in 2016 and then joined the first Trump administration, serving in various senior roles. He then joined the Republican National Committee, working to help Trump’s reelection in 2020. After the 2020 election, Simmons assumed the role of Executive Director at the NCGOP, then later stepped up to be the Chairman, once President Trump asked Chairman Whatley to serve as RNC Chairman.
Stances on key issues:
Election Integrity: Simmons noted that President Trump cited the NCGOP’s election program as the gold standard. He said that the NCGOP’s program has been implemented across the country by the RNC and helped stop several issues in different states.
Fundraising: Simmons said the fundraising track record speaks for itself. FEC records showed the North Carolina Republican Party raised $21.6 million in 2024, $8 million in 2022, $33 million in 2020, and $4.5 million in 2018. He then went on to say that the NCGOP is an open book and that he is happy to engage in conversations with people about any specific situations.
Track Record: When asked about his most challenging election challenges, he cited his work on President Trump’s victory in 2016 and the 2019 Special Election that sent Dan Bishop to Congress. In both cases, conventional wisdom said that Republicans were going to lose, but through perseverance and hard work, Republicans were victorious in the election.
