Mission Hospital Earns Magnet Recognition for Nursing Excellence Again

Mission Hospital earned the Magnet® recognition for 2025, recognizing the nursing professionalism, teamwork, and highest standard of patient care. The American Nursing Credentialing Center’s (ANCC) Magnet Recognition Program recognizes nursing programs that meet rigorous standards for nursing excellence. Fewer than ten percent of hospitals in the United States earn this designation, and Mission is the only Magnet-recognized hospital in Western North Carolina.

“Earning Magnet recognition once is a remarkable accomplishment—but achieving it again reaffirms the deep-rooted culture of excellence and collaboration within our hospital,” said Ruth Kain, Chief Nursing Officer, Mission Hospital. “It means our patients can trust they’re receiving world-class care, delivered by the most skilled and compassionate professionals in healthcare.”

Every four years, Magnet status must be reevaluated and recertified, requiring hospitals to demonstrate continued excellence and ongoing improvements to patient care and quality outcomes. Mission first achieved Magnet recognition in 2020 and now in 2025. The Magnet Recognition Program is the gold standard for nursing excellence. Mission Hospital received recognition from the ANCC with eight exemplars for outstanding work.

“This recognition is a testament to the extraordinary dedication of our nurses and entire care team,” said Greg Lowe, CEO of Mission Health and Mission Hospital. “We are incredibly proud of the team’s continued commitment to excellence in patient care and to upholding the highest standards of nursing. Magnet recognition is a reflection of their passion, professionalism, and teamwork.”

Mission Hospital is located in Asheville, North Carolina, and is the region’s only Level II trauma center, and serves as a hub for advanced care for the region. In 2025, Mission Hospital tied for first place with Duke University for the best hospital in North Carolina.
