NC House passes legislation banning DEI in state and local government
Last night, the North Carolina House passed HB 171, Equality in State Agencies/Prohibition on DEI, in a 69-45 party-line vote.
The legislation prohibits state agencies, local governments, or covered schools from promoting, establishing, or funding DEI programs. It provides an accountability mechanism for local officials who violate this law.
What they are saying:
Speaker Destin Hall X account 4.30.25
Rep. Brendon Jones X account 4.30.25
N.C. House Democratic Caucus X account 4.30.25
Tim’s Take: Did Democrats miss the memo? DEI is dead, and the American people rejected it last November. Major corporations continue to eliminate DEI programs, and the Trump administration is eradicating these programs at the federal level. Additionally, studies have shown that DEI programs increased racial hostility, instead of reducing it. Although the politically connected DEI consultants may be sad about the elimination of these programs, Americans approve of the change.
