N.C. Rep. Julie von Haefen Shares Image Advocating Violence Against Trump and Musk

On Saturday, North Carolina Representative Julie von Haefen shared an image for the so-called “No Kings” protest in Raleigh that depicted a decapitated President Trump and Elon Musk.

After making this post, North Carolinians expressed outrage at the image encouraging political violence against President Trump, who survived two assassination attempts on the campaign trail. The next day, she deleted the image saying the crowd image was “inappropriate” and went on to condemn political violence in all its forms.

North Carolina House Speaker Destin Hall said, “Her disgraceful behavior fails to meet the standards expected from House members and sets a dangerous precedent in an already volatile political climate. I am examining the next steps with our legislative attorneys to ensure this behavior does not continue.” So far, leading North Carolina Democrats, including House Minority Leader Robert Reives, Senate Minority Leader Sydney Batch, Governor Josh Stein, or Attorney General Jeff Jackson have commented on von Haefen’s posts. However, House Republicans will want to take action this week to hold von Haefen accountable, so they will likely have to take a position.

North Carolina Republican Party calls for her to resign

The Chairman of the North Carolina Republican Party Jason Simmons said, “The posts Rep. von Haefen shared do not show the judgement or temperament of someone to hold public office. For the good of her constituents to have effective representation, she should resign.”
