President Trump Endorses NCGOP Chairman Jason Simmons for Reelection

NCGOP set to choose between experienced operative versus activists...

Yesterday, President Donald J. Trump endorsed Jason Simmons, the Chairman of the North Carolina Republican Party, for reelection. Simmons was first elected Chair in March 2024, after President Trump selected the previous NCGOP Chair, Michael Whatley, to lead the Republican National Committee. The NCGOP will hold its annual convention on June 5- 8 in Greensboro, and Simmons will face activist Brooke McGowan.

About Jason Simmons

Simmons is a professional political operative with over a decade of experience both nationally and in North Carolina.

  • Simmons started in 2012 working for the Romney campaign and served in the McCrory Administration.

  • In 2016, Simmons was one of the first operatives working for the Trump campaign, serving as the state director for North Carolina. He then served in the first Trump administration serving in the Office of Personnel Management and Small Business Administration.

    • From 2019 to 2021, Simmons served as a Regional Political Director with the Republican National Committee.

  • In April 2021, he was hired as the Executive Director of the North Carolina Republican Party and was selected as Chairman in March 2024.

About Brooke McGowan

Simmons faces activist Brooke McGowan.

  • McGowan registered to vote in Iredell County in 2021, moving to her forever home after her husband's career in the Marine Corps.

  • Her previous political experience includes running in the Republican Primary for State Senate in Oklahoma in 2016 and for Congress in 2024, where she lost to former Green Beret Pat Harrigan.

  • Unlike Simmons, who was working to get President Trump elected in 2016, McGowan opposed Trump in the primary. Here are some of her anti-Trump comments from that time.
