Last night, South Carolina voters elected Democrat Annie Andrews to the United States Senate, Republican Alan Wilson as Governor, and two South Carolina House districts are too close to call. Andrews defeated Trump-endorsed Sen. Darline Graham 51.1% to 46.7%, despite efforts by President Trump to “help” Graham cross the finish line. Attorney General Alan Wilson the Republican Gubernatorial Nominee defeated the Democrat Jermaine Johnson 51.6% to 47.1%. In the tightly contested South Carolina First Congressional District and Second District are still too close to call. The Democrat leads narrowly leads in the first, and the Republican leads in the Second.
On her victory Andrews said, “South Carolina, you have shown the nation — in an era of partisan divides, of vitriol and name calling, in a politics dominated by billionaires, special interests, and insiders in Washington — that we will not bow down. We will not back down. And we will chart our own course.”
In her concession, Sen. Darline Graham said, “Thank you, South Carolina. Serving this state and being our party’s nominee has been the honor of a lifetime. While tonight’s result was not what we hoped for, I am grateful for every supporter, volunteer, staff member, friend, and family member who stood beside us. After losing my beloved brother Lindsey, your prayers and kindness carried our family through some of our hardest days. That love means more than words can express.”
She continued, “I have congratulated Annie Andrews and wished her and her family well. Though this campaign has ended, my love for South Carolina and my belief in America’s promise remain steadfast. Our work continues, and I still believe our best days are ahead. God bless South Carolina, and God bless America.”
On his victory, Alan Wilson said, “The election is over. Now it's time to get to work. My priorities are clear: make South Carolina more affordable, our economy more prosperous, and our government more accountable. I won't promise to be a perfect governor, but I promise to be an accessible, accountable governor who will always fight for you and your family. Our future is bright, South Carolina. Let's get to work!”
