Sen. Ted Budd Leads Congressional Effort For New Autonomous Warfare Command To Be Headquartered In North Carolina

This week, U.S. Senator Ted Budd (R- North Carolina) joined by several of his North Carolina Congressional colleagues in sending a bipartisan letter to Secretary of War Pete Hegseth encouraging him to select the State of North Carolina to serve as the headquarters for the Autonomous Warfare Command (AUTOWARCOM), a new, functional combatant command that will lead the joint force in unmanned autonomous warfare.

In the letter, the Members wrote:

“North Carolina hosts an expansive defense industrial base, innovative research institutes and universities, strategic terrain, and well-equipped military installations; home to some of our nation’s top warfighters. Our delegation has consistently emphasized North Carolina’s unique ability to contribute to missions of national importance, and our state continues to deliver to this end. North Carolina’s military installations, including Fort Bragg and Camp Lejeune, have already emerged as national leaders in the integration of emerging technologies and advanced weapons systems into the force.”

Joining Senator Budd in sending this letter are Representatives Don Davis (D-N.C.-01), Virginia Foxx (R-N.C.-05), Pat Harrigan (R-N.C.-10), Mark Harris (R-N.C.-08), Richard Hudson (R-N.C.-09), Brad Knott (R-N.C.-13), Addison McDowell (R-N.C.-06), Tim Moore (R-N.C.-14), Greg Murphy (R-N.C.-03), and Deborah Ross (D-N.C.-02).
