Saturday night, State Auditor Dave Boliek addressed the Old North State Dinner at the end of the NCGOP Convention.

ey quotes from Boliek’s speech:

  • It is an honor to be here, and I do not take it for granted. Look, the job of the State Auditor is actually pretty simple. You got to hold state government accountable, make it work smarter, spend money wiser, and be held on the high standards people of North Carolina expect and deserve. It's about making sure every single agency, every department, and every official is doing the job the right way, the honest way, and the efficient way. North Carolina is a place where liberty thrives, business grows, families are strong, and government needs to stay in its lane.

  • When I was elected auditor, I made a promise to each and every one of you on the campaign trail, and I made that promise to the people of North Carolina that we were going to hold all levels of government accountable, follow every single dollar, and evaluate government programs across the state. We're not a rubber stamp, and I'm not there just to hold the seat and sit around and watch things happen in Raleigh. That's why we work to transform the auditor's office from what has been described as an internal-facing office that deals basically agency to agency to an outward-facing office that works to shine a light for state policymakers, state local governments, and frankly, all North Carolinians on knowing and seeing exactly how our state government works and how we spend our tax dollars.

  • Our conservative General Assembly is going to make government efficiency not as difficult as it is in Washington, DC. They've been fantastic stewards of your tax dollars over the last 14 and a half years, and they continue their strong work as we speak, and when they get back to Raleigh, working on the next iteration of the budget. I use a lot of figures, and I'll give you one figure that I point to. We can talk about lower taxes, we can talk about the rainy day fund, but your share, every person in this room share of our state debt is $410. Now, your share of the federal debt, $107,000. That's the difference between having a conservative legislator who works on your behalf every single day. So, thank you for that. We will be working to appoint all 100 county chairs of our board of elections as well, and those will also switch by June forward. So watch for that. We're working on it as we do every year. And election integrity is certainly part of the process. So today, I will make a little bit of news that I am calling for a 100% audit of voting results prior to canvassing in the state of North Carolina.

  • As I've said all across the state, many of you in this room have heard me say this, and I really do believe in it. The best thing that I could do for the Republican Party and everyone here in this room, and frankly, all North Carolinians, is show up for the job every single day, be professional, efficient, effective, impactful, and get actual results so we can show all citizens across North Carolina and all voters that the Republican Party is the only party qualified to manage and lead the state of North Carolina responsibly into the future.

Tim’s Take: His speech was well received by the convention attendees, highlighting his emerging popularity with Republican voters. As someone who has attended hundreds of political events, Boliek did an exceptional job of communicating competency with charisma. His speech shows that Boliek may have the political talent necessary to seek higher office.
