UNC Asheville Hosts NC First Robotics Competition for High Schoolers

Last weekend, UNC Asheville hosted the North Carolina First regional robotics event. First North Carolina is a nonprofit that organizes high school robotics programs to provide high school students with the opportunity to develop skills, confidence, and resilience to build a better world.

The competition at UNC Asheville featured several teams from high schools across North Carolina, predominantly from the West. The high schoolers designed robots to collect balls and throw them into a high bin. For the first 30 seconds, the robots were programmed to act autonomously.

Here are some images from the event:

First North Carolina highlighted two special awards from the weekend: the Impact Award and the Rookie All-Star Award. The Impact Award is the highest honor in FIRST, recognizing a team that is making a powerful difference in their community through STEM. The Rookie All-Star celebrates a new team that is already building strong partnerships and creating meaningful impact.
