UNC Asheville unveils proposed Millennial Campus Property Development

Last week, the University of Asheville released a new proposal for a mixed-use development on its Millennial Campus Property. The project will feature a new soccer stadium, residential units, and commercial office space.

Key features of the new project:

  • The new project will be anchored by a 5,000-seat stadium designed to host USL soccer matches, host major UNCA events, and host major concerts.

  •  The new project includes plans for 300-450 units of market-rate housing to serve the student population and the broader community.

  • Additionally, the new project will feature 30,000-50,000 square feet of retail space.

  • The new stadium will be the permanent home of the Asheville City Soccer Club, which was started in 2016. They compete at the highest amateur level in the United States.

  • The project is expected to take two years to complete and will be supported by grants.

  • UNC Asheville expects to include this district in improved campus life for its student body.

  • The project is expected to bring $250 million in investment and create hundreds of jobs.

“Hurricane Helene brought unprecedented devastation to our area,” said Chancellor Kimberly van Noort. “We witnessed tremendous losses – to the environment, businesses, jobs, housing, and more. The Millennial Campus initiative is a new opportunity to build a future of hope and prosperity for our campus and the community while addressing critical needs and diversifying our revenue streams… UNC Asheville is poised to enhance its educational and experiential opportunities, as well as the regional economy upon which we all depend. We must work to ensure the future success of the University and the region, and this plan aims to accomplish both.”
