At Cumberland County Campaign Stop, Whatley Highlights Cooper’s Soft-On-Crime Agenda
This week, Michael Whatley held a campaign stop in Fayetteville North Carolina with law enforcement leaders to highlight former Governor Roy Cooper’s failures on public safety. Whatley was joined by Sheriff Wayne Coats of Harnett County and Aaron Meredith (Candidate for Harnett County Sheriff) to discuss Cooper’s long soft-on-crime record, and the prisoner release settlement that allowed at least 4,200 violent criminals back into North Carolina communities.
Whatley has received the endorsement of several law enforcement groups including: North Carolina Trooper’s Association, North Carolina Police Benevolent Association, North Carolina Fraternal Order of Police, and the National Border Patrol Council. Despite his decades in office, Cooper has received zero endorsement from major law enforcement groups.
“Families from across Cumberland County have been destroyed forever because Roy Cooper decided to release 4,200 violent criminals from prison. Cooper’s criminal release is the single most destructive action ever taken by a North Carolina Governor. Families will forever have empty seats at the dinner table because of his recklessness - and to this day, Cooper still refuses to apologize,” said Michael Whatley.
Cumberland County was not immune from Cooper’s prisoner release deal. As part of the deal with liberal activists, 289 convicted felons were released into Cumberland County. Here are some of the examples:
Steven D. Munley Jr., was serving time for kidnapping first degree.
Cornelius Walker, career criminal with 13+ arrests, including assault inflicting serious bodily injury.
Tony M. English, 18+ arrests including sexual assault on child and obstruction of justic.
Haywood L. Peele, arrested for first degree murder.
Darian Hogan, 4+ arrests including first degree kidnapping, armed robbery, and first degree burglary.
Travis Thomas, 30+ arrests including organized retail theft and assault
Shaquan M Mcswain, 12+ arrests including statutory rape of 6 yr old, second degree kidnapping, and possession of firearm by felon.
Kevin M. White, 29+ arrests including assault on an officer, possession of drugs, and possession of firearm by felon.
