Americans See Relief This Thanksgiving From Democrats’ Affordability Crisis
Former President Biden’s legacy is record-setting inflation caused by poor economic policies, particularly the so-called American Rescue Plan, a war on American energy, and a weakened America on the global stage. President Trump is now undoing Biden Administration’s failures through tax cuts, promoting American energy, a peace agenda, reversing the loss of American prestige.
Holidays like Thanksgiving provide an opportunity to compare this year to last year. The ear. The Wells Fargo Thanksgiving Food Report shows the progress in several key staple items for Thanksgiving dinner this year. Turkey prices are down 3.7% compared to last, mostly reflecting the lower cost of feeding turkeys. National name brand frozen vegetables are down 15%, while private-label label frozen vegetables are down 0.8% from last year. Dinner rolls are down 22% and cranberries, gravy mix, and stuffing are all down from last year. Finally, Walmart, Lidl’s Aldi’s, and Target all report a more affordable prepared Thanksgiving means this year.
The gradual drop in Thanksgiving costs demonstrates that Trump’s economic agenda is beginning to work. However, the real impact will not be felt until the impact of the Working Family Tax cuts is fully felt.
Here’s the thing. Democrats on both the National and State levels remain wholly committed to opposing this economic agenda that benefits the American people.
Every Democrat in both the U.S. House and Senate voted against the Working Families Tax Credit. In fact, former Gov. Cooper, who’s running for the U.S. Senate, launched his campaign against this legislation that puts more money into the pocket of everyday North Carolinians.
On the state level, North Carolina Republicans have continued to push a tax relief agenda, so that North Carolina has one of the best tax climates in the country, which is why North Carolina is routinely considered ranked as a top state for business. North Carolina Democrats, including Buncombe County’s Sen. Julie Mayfield, have consistently opposed these tax cuts, preferring a higher tax burden for North Carolina families.
Access to affordable energy is a key driver for economic growth, specifically for the manufacturing sector. The Trump administration referred Biden’s ill-advised policies and refocused on American energy dominance. But Democrats are opposed. Last month, North Carolina’s Attorney General Jeff Jackson (Democrat) sued the Environmental Protection Agency in a bid to protect solar projects.
For years, Democrats have pushed a regulatory regime that limits new project, and in fact limit their preferred renewable energy projects. In Western North Carolina, Mountain True, fight against energy project, leading to higher costs for North Carolinians.
Finally, around the world, the Trump administration is bringing peace. Biden’s term was marked by a humiliating withdrawal from Afghanistan, a land war in Europe, and a reinvigorated Iran, causing terror across the Middle East. In contrast, President Trump is bringing peace, working to renegotiate trade in America’s favor, and attracting trillions in foreign investment.
Bottom Line: Democrats are adamantly opposed to President Trump’s economic agenda, and that could prove to be a political liability. As the impacts of tax cuts, access to energy, and a level trade playing field take hold, Americans will be able to feel the impact in their wallets. As Americans feel these economic benefits, Democrats will be on record opposing it ahead of the 2026 midterms, which would prove to be fatal in their quest to retake Congress and make gains on the state level.
