Asheville Announces Interim Police Chief
Last Friday, Asheville City Manager Debra Campble announced that Deputy Chief Jackie Stepp would serve as the interim Chief for the Asheville Police Department, effective November 21st. Chief Stepp has served on the Asheville Police Department for 20 years, and currently serves as the Deputy Chief overing the Administrative Bureau. This comes after Asheville Police Michael Lamb announced his retirement in September.
“I am confident the department will continue delivering the highest level of service to our community under Interim Chief Jackie Stepp’s leadership,” said City Manager Debra Campbell. “Her dedication to this organization and commitment to public service and safety will ensure a smooth and effective transition in this vital interim role.”
The city promised to release more information about the recruitment process for the new chief when plans are finalized.
“I know firsthand the dedication and professionalism that define this department, and I am honored to serve the men and women of the Asheville Police Department, as well as our community in this Interim Chief role,” said Interim Chief Stepp.
