Anna Ferguson Selected to Replace Rep. Mike Clampitt In North Carolina House
Over the weekend, Anna Ferguson was selected by local Republican activists as the replacement for Rep. Mike Claimpitt who passed away last month after a long battle with cancer. She will serve the remainder of his term and appear on the ballot in November 2026.
Speaker Destin Hall said, "Congratulations to Anna Ferguson on her win. The people of Jackson, Swain, and Transylvania counties have chosen a dedicated advocate to represent their district. I look forward to working with Anna in the North Carolina House to continue advancing policies that support western North Carolina and our entire state, including our ongoing efforts to help our neighbors recover and rebuild from Hurricane Helene."
Ferguson is a businesswoman and member of the Eastern Band of Cherokee Indians. Raised in the Qualla Community between Whittier and Cherokee, her roots run deep in the region, with family ties stretching back generations to Haywood County. Fergeson earned her bachelor’s in business administration from NC State University before returning back to Western North Carolina to work in her family’s electrical contracting business. She and her sister opened a retail store in Cherokee and eventually launched a short-term rental business, providing her with direct experience managing payroll, regulations and challenges of a tourism-driven economy.
