Buncombe Board of Commissioners Appoints Curt Euler as County Attorney

At its June 17th meeting, the Buncombe County Board of Commissioners appointed Curt Euler as the County Attorney. He has been serving as the interim County Attorney since September 2024. The County Attorney serves as the lead attorney for the county, advising on a range of issues including land management, property taxes, environmental ligation, and employee matters.

“My goals are to make sure that the Legal and Risk Department continue to support the other County departments in the recovery effort from Tropical Storm Helene and continue to provide the County Commissioners sound legal advice to assist them in making informed decisions,” said County Attorney Curt Euler. “I believe that government employees need to be good stewards of taxpayer dollars and that the Legal Department’s role is to provide guidance to help the County avoid unnecessary lawsuits and claims. I also think our job is to help make sure that the law is followed and that all residents are treated fairly.”

“Curt brings years of experience and an understanding of Buncombe County’s recent legal history. I’m extremely pleased to remove the interim title and have him move into this position full time,” says County Manager Avril Pinder. “Curt has proven himself a valuable asset in numerous positions with the County and I have full confidence that trend will continue as he advises the Board of Commissioners in legal matters.”

Euler previously served as the Assistant County Attorney, the Human Resources Director and Director of Employee Benefits and Risk Management. Before this service, he worked for the City of Asheville as an Assistant City Attorney. Euler has a BS in Political Science from the University of Oregon and earned his JD from Washington and Lee University.  He is licensed to practice law in North Carolina and is also an inactive member of the Colorado Bar.
