Buncombe County Transitions Helene Resource Center To By-Appointment Format

This week, Buncombe County announced that beginning on march 30th, the Helene Resource Center will transition to a by-appointment format, which individuals can schedule by calling the One Buncombe Call Center at 828-250-6100. Appointments will be scheduled in coordination with the Helene Recovery Office at 200 College St., Asheville. To consolidate operations, the 94 Coxe Ave., Asheville location will close at the end of the day on March 27, 2026. This move comes as the number of individuals needing in-person support has drastically declined.

“This transition is another step in our community’s recovery,” said Helene Recovery Officer Kevin Madsen. “With this new format, we’re able to ensure a close alignment with our recently formed Helene Recovery Office and our partners serving Buncombe County survivors with disaster case management. While it will look slightly different, we are continuing the efforts to support our community.”

Since April 8, 2025, the HRC served more than 1,400 survivors in-person at the Coxe Avenue location. The HRC housed multiple representatives from federal, state, and local partners to best support timely access to services. The One Buncombe Call Center remains open from 8 a.m. until 5 p.m. Monday through Friday at 828-250-6100.
