City of Asheville Proclaims July as Parks and Recreation Month

At the city council meeting last Tuesday, Council Member Bo Hess, on behalf of Mayor Esther Manheimer proclaimed July 2025 as Asheville Parks and Recreation Month. The announcement underscores the role of parks and recreation in encouraging community healthy and unity, especially after Hurricane Helene.

The year’s theme is “Build Together, Play Together” honoring the full-time park and recreation professionals, the part-part time staff, and hundreds of volunteers, who help maintain the parks across the country. Launched in 1985, this year marks the 40th anniversary of Park and Recreation Month across the nation as designated by the U.S. House of Representatives.
