CNBC Names North Carolina As The Top State For Business
Today, North Carolina was ranked as the top state for business by CNBC. For the last 18 years, CNBC conducted a comprehensive study comparing the business viability of each state. This is the third time in the last four years that North Carolina has been named as the top state for business.
North Carolina secured this top spot with a strong ranking for its economy and workforce. Additionally, North Carolina performed well in the Business Friendliness category with labor regulations and low tort liability costs. CNBC did say that failing to recover from Helene could potentially drag the state down economically in the future.

What They Are Saying:
“North Carolina offers unparalleled opportunities for businesses of all sizes,” Senate Leader Phil Berger (R-Rockingham) said. “Since 2011, the Republican-led General Assembly has reshaped our state’s business climate by slashing our tax rates, reducing regulatory hurdles, and supporting world-class educational and job training programs. Our community colleges and UNC system schools are vital partners in preparing our citizens to fill the thousands of jobs being created here and the existing ones. We must double down on our efforts to support business growth and development from Murphy to Manteo.”
Speaker Destin Hall said, “"We’ve taken a deliberate approach to fostering a business-friendly environment—grounded in policies that reduce barriers to entry, promote competition, and encourage investment and growth. Being ranked number one for business yet again is just the latest example of the successful reforms implemented in North Carolina by the Republican-led General Assembly.”
Governor Josh Stein said, “North Carolina is again the #1 state in the country for business – for the 3rd time in 4 years! From investing in our world-class workforce to enjoying our top-tier quality of life, there’s no doubt our state is not only the best place to live, work, and raise your family, but also to grow a business. To businesses looking for a new home, come join us in North Carolina!”
Congressman Tim Moore said, “CNBC just named North Carolian #1 state for business! We’ve worked hard to build an environment where businesses can grow with low taxes, fewer roadblocks, and a focus on results. Come build in NC — we’re not slowing down.”
State Treasurer Brad Briner said, “North Carolina’s economy is booming and we’re attracting new businesses daily. Thanks to thoughtful, conservative leadership from the NCGA, our state is well positioned for the future.”
Sen. Ted Budd said, “For the 3rd time in the last 4 years, CNBC confirms what we in the Old North State know well—North Carolina is America's best state for business. With our unmatched, well-trained workforce, pro-growth polices, and capacity for development and expansion, North Carolina is leading the way.”
