Cooper Receives First Endorsement from Radical House Democrat

Last night on Spectrum News Capitol Tonight, U.S. Representative Deborah Ross became the first Democratic House member to endorse former Gov. Roy Cooper for Senate. Ross served as the Democrats 2016 nominee for U.S. Senate.

About Representative Ross

  • Ross’s first major role in North Carolina politics was as the Executive Director for the North Carolina chapter of the ACLU, where she lobbied for extremist policies.

  • She was then elected to the North Carolina House, eventually rising the ranks of leadership, until she resigned early to take a lucrative position.

  • She then ran for U.S. Senate in 2016, where she spent the majority of her time trying to run from her record at the ACLU lobbying for legislation to improve the situation for sex offenders and rapists.

  • In 2020, Ross was elected to Congress, and then secured a position as a Deputy Whip on the leadership team.

State of play in the U.S. Senate Race

Democrats are all waiting on Gov. Cooper to make a decision about a possible Senate bid. And Ross said that three other major Democrats have already contacted her about their plans to run if Cooper declines. No one serious in North Carolina Democratic politics seems to believe that former Rep. Wiley Nickel’s campaign for Senate is a credible option.

  • While Democrats continue to wait, Republicans are already on the move trying to brand Cooper as “Runaway Roy,” as they deploy trackers to ask him “super tough” questions like “Why do you support men being able to play women’s sports?” or “Are there more than two genders?”

Ross’s clear, unambiguous endorsement shows that the radical left and established Democratic Party are firmly behind Cooper for Senate, and if he declines to run, they will have to scramble to get behind a different candidate.
