Durham County Commissioners Dox ICE Agents In The Field
Yesterday, the Chair of the Durham County Commission, Nida Allam, posted on X, “Everyone be aware: ICE agents in plain clothes are at the Durham County Courthouse. I’m heading there now.” She then went on to post pictures of people she claimed were ICE agents. According to her, the ICE agents left without incident because the person they were after did not show up at court. ABC11 reports that nearly 100 people showed up in response to ICE’s presence.
While ICE has not responded to this specific situation, they did release a statement yesterday highlighting the increased danger to ICE agents.
“Across the country, ICE agents are targeting dangerous criminal illegal aliens and taking them off American streets. Violent thugs ICE arrested include child pedophiles, drug traffickers, and burglars,” said Assistant Secretary Tricia McLaughlin. “As our brave ICE law enforcement arrests the worst of the worst criminal illegal aliens, they are facing an 830 percent increase in assaults against them. Secretary Noem stands with ICE agents who put themselves in harm’s way to protect the American people from violent criminal illegal aliens.”
After Allam made these inflammatory posts, conservatives on X expressed deep concern about the potential danger to law enforcement. She responded by reposting someone who accused ICE agents of “kidnapping” people. Additionally, the North Carolina Democrat Party posted on X calling on people to “Raise some hell. Good Trouble.”
Governor Josh Stein and Attorney General Jeff Jackson have not responded to inquiries about this situation.
Tim’s Take: This situation is a preview of future confrontation between liberal activists and federal law enforcement. The actions taken by Allam show liberals across North Carolina are ready to actively resist law enforcement as they work to enforce federal immigration law, just like in Los Angeles. This will put former Gov. Roy Cooper in a difficult position; he will either have to stand with the activists or federal law enforcement. If Cooper sides with the activists, he will alienate persuadable voters. If he sides with law enforcement, the Democrat base will revolt.
