Anthony Penland Announces Campaign For NC House
Yesterday, Anthony Penland announced his campaign for North Carolina House of Representatives District 115. This Buncombe County District is one of the most competitive districts in North Carolina and could be the deciding race for Republicans to obtain a supermajority in the North Carolina House.
Why Penland is running:
“I’ve been blessed to live and work and raise a family in this community for my entire life,” said Penland. We need better representation in Raleigh, and I’m committed to being a voice for our citizens in the General Assembly.”
“I have seen firsthand the spirit of the people of Western North Carolina, and I also know how important it is to have elected officials who represent the ideals of their people,” Penland said. “In Raleigh, I’ll focus on recovery resources for our region, creating economic development opportunities, and ensuring that we get back to our sacred way of life. Nothing will distract me from those priorities.”
About Penland:
Penland served over 30 years in public service. He started as a volunteer firefighter in 1990 and was eventually hired a full-time career firefighter in 1995. He has served as the Swannanoa Fire Chief since 2001.
Penland was born and raised in Swannanoa and continues to serve the community to this day.
Penland previously ran for County Commissioner and received support from the North Carolina Police Benevolent Association and Builders Association of the Blue Ridge Mountains.
Tim’s Take: Penland’s early announcement for this House seat will give him the necessary time to raise money and prepare for a competitive campaign. In 2024, the Democrat incumbent, Lindsey Prather, only beat her opponent about 1,400 votes. Penland is a well-qualified candidate that will pose a serious challenge to Prather.
