Congressman Chuck Edwards Suspends Reelection Campaign After Ethics Investigation

In the aftermath of a Congressional Ethics investigation that revealed an inappropriate relationship with a young female staffer, Congressman Chuck Edwards announced that he was suspending his reelection campaign.

In an early morning post, Edwards said, “After much prayer and reflection, I’ve decided to withdraw from my re-election campaign. I will complete my current term. Serving Western North Carolina has been the honor of my life. Thank you for your trust, prayers, and support. God bless WNC and America.”

Edward’s replacement will be named by the Eleventh Congressional District Executive Committee, which plans to meet on August 10th. In the coming days, several replacements will likely be floated.
