Former Governor Glenn Youngkin Launches Conservative Group “Empowering America’s Parents”

This week, former Republican Governor Glenn Youngkin announced the launch of new conservative policy group, Empowering America’s Parents, focused on advancing pro-family educational policies.

The first goal of Empower America’s Parents is to encourage governor’s across America to op-ed into the Education Freedom Tax Credit — a game-changing scholarship program already adopted by 30 states. Regrettably, 20 states have refused to opt-in to these scholarships.

Here are some key facts about the Educational Freedom Tax Credit

  • This provision was made possible through President’s Trump signature legislation: The Working Family Tax cut. The scholarships are paid for by private donations and a federal tax credit, not by state taxes. That means your taxes aren’t going up and public schools aren’t losing any funding.

  • Families with children eligible for public school, earning up to three times their area’s median income are eligible; a recent report said nearly 52 million children qualify for these scholarships. Families can use the scholarships for tutoring, books, online courses, and therapies for students with disabilities, and private school tuition. Scholarships are also even available to students attending public schools.

  • If they blow this opportunity, they’ll be leaving kids behind in their state while children in other states get the benefit. Who could possibly be against scholarships for tuition, tutoring, and services for kids with disabilities?

Tim’s Take: Governor Youngkin is continuing to champion parents and kids against the union saturated educational establishment that puts itself over students. This advocacy effort by Youngkin tackles an important issue and shows his leadership on conservative causes.
