Speaker Mike Johnson Campaigns In Eastern North Carolina To Support Buckhout For Congress
This Tuesday, the Speaker of the House Representatives Mike Johnson stopped in eastern North Carolina to campaign for Laurie Buckhout. Buckhout is running to defeat Democrat Don Davis, who has a record of failing to show up for key votes.
At the stop, Johnson said, “North Carolina is central to the strategy for Republicans to hold the majority in the Congress in the midterm election. It happens to be just 91 days from today. So we had a great visit, a meeting with our extraordinary delegation of Republicans in the House who served throughout North Carolina. And we're super excited to be here today with Laurie Buckhout. She is one of our star recruits to run for Congress this fall. And she is going to flip a blue seat to red. North Carolina's first congressional district is an essential part of the strategy to ensure the Republicans maintain the majority in Congress.
He continued, “We're in a contrast election right now, and the contrast is simply between common sense and crazy. The Democrat party is now turning to communism, Marxism, socialism. That is not something that conforms with the values, the morals, the principles of the people of North Carolina. And so I'm delighted to have a strong contrast and a great choice in the first district of North Carolina.”
After the Speaker’s opening remarks, Buckhout said, “I think everyone down here loves Speaker Mike Johnson. He is just so steady, so calm, so competent, and has been able to shepherd through some astonishing legislation that has been really good for the working families and the taxpayers of Eastern North Carolina. Reducing taxes, helping farmers, helping commercial fishermen, helping our recreational fishermen and all that they bring to the state in terms of revenue and tourism. He's just been a real game changer for the state.”
In response to a question from the Blue Ridge Times about what Americans need to know about the rise of socialism in the Democrat Party and what it says about Davis that he is not distancing himself from it. Speaker Johnson said, “Well, I'll tell you what, Don Davis would have to vote in lockstep with his party. That's what he's done the whole time when he's shown up for votes. As you know, famously, infamously, he's missing key votes as well. But this is a serious contrast between the parties.”
He continued, “It's a contrast election, as we said, a choice between maintaining the greatest nation, the great superpower on the planet, America, which is the greatest nation in the world, or going down another road. And we cannot have that. The Democratic Party is not the party of your fathers and grandfathers. This party has gone far left. By my count this morning, there's 38 Marxist communists who have won primaries for Congress or are on the path to do so. And this is a serious problem. The barbarians are inside the gate, politically speaking, and we must defeat them.”
In response to a question about Johnson’s confidence in Republican’s ability to win the midterm’s, the Speaker said, “Yeah, I'm very confident. I believe we're going to defy history and win… And I think we have so many factors in our favor that are going to ensure that Republicans hold and grow our majority.”
He continued, “We've done incredible things for the people of North Carolina. Just for one example, in the 1st District of North Carolina, the average North Carolinian has $3,300 more in their pocket that they did not have to send to Washington for taxes this year. Why? Because we passed the big, beautiful bill, the Worker Families Tax Code.”
The Speaker concluded the media availability saying, “By the way, the Democrat Socialists of America, which is that new element, they published their platform and you all ought to be reporting on it. They want to abolish all the borders in the country, all the prisons in the country. They want to abolish the U.S. Senate. They want to remove the President. They want to expand the House as a unicameral governing body because they have calculated that over a couple of cycles they can fill it full of Communists and take over all the means of production. This is dangerous ideology. It must be defeated and that's one of the reasons we're going to win. We have a slight fundraising advantage right now over Democrats for the first time in 10 years. (We have a President who's out on the campaign trail running like he's a candidate. He's doing rallies. We're going to have the first ever midterm convention, November 9th and 10th, in Dallas, Texas. We'll be on TV for two straight nights to parade all of our extraordinary record of accomplishment and our stars across the stage and remind people that this midterm counts more than any ever has in our entire lifetime.”
The Speaker boldly declared, “Am I convinced we're going to win? I absolutely am. We're going to keep this going. The President will have four years, not two. And we're going to keep the positive movement, the America First agenda going to make life better, stronger, more secure, more opportunity for every hardworking American.”
