General Assembly Passes Funding Bill Addressing Some Helene Recovery Programs and Some State Employees' Pay Raises

The Republican-led General Assembly passed a Conference Report version of Senate Bill 449 that provides some additional funding Helene recovery and other state employee raises. The legislation now awaits action in the North Carolina House.

Here are some of the key components of the legislation:

  • The legislation broadens and expands the bridge repair program for private bridges destroyed by Helene and expands loans the Golden LEAF foundation can issue to small businesses.

  • The bill also clears the way capital projects and local government to access greater resources for long term recovery.

  • The bill also includes pay increases for the State Highway Patrol, as well as additional funding for equipment for the State Highway Patrol.

  • However, the legislation does not address the larger issues related to Medicaid funding, tax cuts, or other fiscal matters.
