NC Senate Passes Updated Congressional Map
Today, the North Carolina Senate passed a new Congressional map that will make North Carolina’s First Congressional District lean more Republican. The map passed on a party line vote. The legislation now heads to the Republican-controlled North Carolina House, where it is expected to pass.
Here is what Senate Republicans said about the updated Congressional map.
Senate Leader Phil Berger said, "Across the country, Democrat-run states have spent decades ensuring that Republicans would be drawn out of Congress. North Carolina Republicans will not sit quietly and watch Democrats continue to ignore the will of the people in an attempt to force their liberal agenda on our citizens. This new map respects the will of the North Carolina voters who sent President Trump to the White House three times."
Senate Redistricting Chairman Ralph Hise (R-Mitchell) said, "North Carolina is fighting fire with fire. If Gavin Newsom and his Democrat cronies want to try and take control of Congress to force their liberal agenda on the American people, then we're going to respond in kind."
Here is what North Carolina Democrats said about the new maps:
NC Democrat Party Chair Anderson Clayton said, “Trump’s agenda is holding up federal funding for hurricane Helene victims. Ralph Hise should concern himself with the maters of his own district, and the fact WNC’s received 11% of FEMA funding its owed.”
Governor Josh Stein said, “Today the legislature returns to Raleigh focused on a power-grab redistricting effort, not the critical issues impacting North Carolinians.”
