Gov. Stein Vetoes Bill That Protects Women and Children From Sexual Exploitation

Today, Governor Stein vetoed House Bill 805, Prevent Sexual Exploitation/Women and Minors. This legislation implemented a number of reforms to increase protection for women and minors from sexual exploitation. Stein said legislation was “mean-spirited and would marginalize vulnerable people.”

About House Bill 805 that Stein vetoed.

  • The legislation created protections from publishing intimate digital content online without someone’s consent.

  • Affirmed parents’ right to know what their kid is reading public school.

  • Prohibited taxpayer-funded gender transition procedures for prisoners.

  • Defined male and female.

What They Are Saying:

  • Speaker Destin Hall said, “I’m disappointed that the governor has vetoed this bill (HB 805), ‘Prevent Sexual Exploitation/Women and Minors.’ By rejecting this bill, he has sided with radical activists over the overwhelming majority of North Carolinians who believe in parental rights, biological reality, and protecting women and children.”

  • Senate Leader Phil Berger said, “Gov. Josh Stein had the opportunity to support women and girls across North Carolina today, yet he chose to bow down to a radical ideology that harms women. In House Bill 805, we took bold action to define two sexes in state law, just like President Trump did in his groundbreaking executive order.”

  • NCGOP Chairman Jason Simmons said, “With the appalling veto of HB 805, Gov. Stein and his radical allies disrespect women across North Carolina in service of a far left-wing agenda voters time again have made clear they reject.”
