N.C. Based Group, Our Ag Future, Praises Congress For Protecting North Carolina Farmers And Saving Duty Drawback
Our AG Future, an initiative of the NC Chamber, praised Congress for protecting farmers by protecting duty drawback in the final version of the One Big Beautiful Bill that passed the House today, and is on its way to President Trump’s desk.
“Thank you to Congress for standing up for North Carolina farmers and agricultural workers by preserving duty drawback and passing the One Big Beautiful Bill. This vital trade tool helps our producers stay competitive in global markets while supporting jobs here at home. Our Ag Future will always fight to uphold this key provision as we continue to support President Trump’s pro-farmer and pro-worker agenda.”
The version of the reconciliation package that first passed the House included a provision that repealed duty drawback protections. Duty drawback protections enable manufacturers to avoid tariffs on exported products. Industry experts warned that repealing this provision could potentially result in the loss of thousands of jobs.
Senators Tillis and Budd publicly committed to removing this provision that hurts North Carolina farmers. Congressman Greg Murphy also voiced his support for removing this provision. In the Senate’s version of the One Big Beautiful Bill, these provisions were removed.
In early June, Our Ag Future announced an ad blitz encouraging Tillis and Budd to oppose the duty drawback repeal. Later, the coalition ran advertising thanking the senators for protecting North Carolina farm jobs, and launched additional advertising to promote the importance of duty drawback protections to key U.S. House members.
The advocacy by North Carolina farmers was ultimately successful with the final version of the One Big Beautiful Bill, leaving duty drawback protections intact.
