House Republicans Pass Congressional Stock Trading Ban That Former Rep. Luria Previously Called “Bull----”
This week, the United States House of Representatives passed legislation limiting lawmakers' ability to profit off the stock market and implement a federal voter ID measure. The legislation passed 231 to 198, with only 13 Democrats breaking ranks with party leadership and voting with Republicans.
Recent polling shows that limits of stock trading by members of Congress is broadly popular, with 63% of Americans, including 69% of Democrats and 64% of Independents in favor of it.
This idea has emerged as a top political issue regarding public trust because some Members of Congress have continued to report enormous returns. For example, former Speaker Nancy Pelosi, one of former Representative Elaine Luria’s key political backers, continues to make news for over performing the market with suspiciously timed trades, that took her family’s net worth from $30 million when she entered Congress to $278 million today.
Notably, former Democrat Representative Elaine Luria made headlines in 2022 telling the Business Insider, “This whole concept is bull----.” But now that Luria is trying to retake her seat from Republican Jen Kiggans, Luria now claims she supports a stock trading ban, after the issue gains prominence and polling shifted.
“Retread loser Elaine Luria used her taxpayer-funded position to make millions of dollars and vehemently opposed the stock trading ban Republicans passed today. Luria can try to rewrite her history all she wants, but Virginians know she’s spewing ‘bulls---.'” – NRCC Spokesman Reilly Richardson.
