Labor Commissioner Luke Farley Honors Asheville-Area Employers For Workplace Safety Excellence

This week, North Carolina Commissioner of Labor, Luke Farley, presented several awards to businesses in the Asheville-area at the Annual Safety Awards Banquet.

“I commend the employers recognized here in Asheville today. You are raising the bar by placing worker safety at the center of everything they do,” said Commissioner Farley. “These honorees reflect a deep commitment to putting people first. This recognition delivers a clear message to employees: your safety is not just valued — it is essential.”

The event, co-sponsored by WCI, Inc., honored public and private employers that reported no fatalities during the calendar year and maintained an incident rate at least 50 percent below the average for their industry group.

This banquet is part of Commissioner Farley’s 20-stop statewide Safety Awards tour, which recognizes employers committed to workplace safety. Over the course of the tour, thousands of awards are being presented. Awards are categorized as Gold, Silver, and Million Hour Awards.

  • Gold Awards are presented to businesses with DART rates (cases involving days away, restricted duty or job transfer due to injury) at least 50 percent below the industry average.

  • Silver Awards are based on days away from work due to injury, also with rates at least 50 percent below the industry average.

  • Million Hour Awards are given to employers which accumulate one million employee hours with no injuries or illnesses involving days away from work.
