State Auditor Dave Boliek and Treasurer Brad Briner Announced Appointments To Lottery Commission
Today, North Carolina State Auditor Dave Boliek and State Treasurer Brad Briner announced their respective appointments to the North Carolina Lottery Commission. Boliek appointed Robert “Jason” Poole, and Briner appointed Bryan Starnes. Both men are Certified Public Accountants.
“Jason Poole is a respected financial professional with a strong record of leadership and service to North Carolina,” said State Auditor Boliek. “His expertise in accounting, governance, and fiscal oversight will be a solid asset to the North Carolina State Lottery Commission.”
Poole is a partner with TRP Sumner, PLLC, and brings more than two decades of accounting, financial reporting, management consulting, auditing, and tax experience to the commission. He is a Certified Public Accountant and Chartered Global Management Accountant who has worked extensively with businesses and organizations across North Carolina. A native of Fayetteville, Poole earned both a Bachelor of Science in Accounting and a Master of Accounting from East Carolina University.

Starnes is a certified public accountant with nearly four decades of experience in accounting, finance and executive leadership. Starnes began his career with Deloitte & Touche before serving as controller for a North Carolina furniture manufacturer. In 1992, he became a partner in Martin Starnes & Associates CPAs, P.A., growing the firm into one of the nation's most respected accounting practices.
The North Carolina State Lottery Commission is a nine-member commission that oversees gaming operations in North Carolina, including developing rules, licensing entities, monitoring compliance, and enforcing regulatory and statutory requirements. In accordance with North Carolina Session Law 2026-41 § 5.10.(j), the State Auditor appoints one of the nine members.
