Virginia State Senator And Key Ally Of Elaine Luria Indicted By Department Of Justice
Today, the United States Department of Justice unsealed an eight-count indictment that charged seven defendants for their roles in a racketeering conspiracy involving marijuana distribution, honest services fraud through bribery, and possession of a firearms in furtherance of a drug trafficking. At the center of the indictment, is Virginia State Senator Louise Lucas, who a key political ally of Elain Luria who is challenging Congresswoman Jen Kiggans in a key battleground race.
“Louise Lucas has served in a position of public trust in the Commonwealth of Virginia for over three decades,” said Attorney General Todd Blanche. “The charges alleged in this indictment reveal the behavior of a public servant who put her own financial interests before the people she was elected to serve. Our federal prosecutors will continue to be guided by the facts and evidence that led a grand jury to indict Ms. Lucas and her alleged co-conspirators.”
According to the indictment, Virginia state senator Lillie Louise Lucas, 82, of Portsmouth, Virginia, led a criminal enterprise (the Lucas Enterprise) comprised of a close-knit group of associates and family members, including her two daughters and her grandson. Lucas allegedly approved and directed activities of the enterprise, including arranging for the acquisition and distribution of 100 kilograms or more of marijuana and supervising the laundering of marijuana proceeds.
This year, Lucas led efforts to redistrict the Commonwealth’s Congressional districts to favor Democrats, including Elaine Luria, who is running for a Congressional district she does not live in.
This May, the FBI executed a federal search warrant at businesses connected to Lucas, and agents recovered drugs and firearms.
In response to her arrest, Lucas released a statement saying “I will not be intimidated. I will not be bullied. And I will not backdown.” Notably, Governor Abigail Spanberger with a gleaming smiled ignored questions about the indictment, eventually releasing a bland statement, and Elain Luria has not released a public comment on the situation.
"If corrupt Elaine Luria is serious about taking on government corruption after she made millions of dollars trading stocks in Congress, she will immediately disavow alleged criminal Louise Lucas after shamelessly siding with her during Virginia Democrats' corrupt power grab attempt. Anything less is pathetic and disqualifying." – NRCC Spokesman Reilly Richardson
