National Democrat Group Picks Favorite Candidate In Competitive Democratic Congressional Primary
This week, the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee officially added Jamie Ager to its “Red to Blue” program, telegraphing their support for him over his opponents. The “Red to Blue” program highlights the key U.S. House races, National Democrats intend to target in an attempt to flip the districts from Republican to Democrat. Political observers note that the average district in the “Red to Blue” program tilts toward Republicans by seven points.
The announcement from this national group comes as Ager is fighting off several more progressive candidates in the 11th District Primary. Several of those candidates, particularly a retired CEO Richard Hudspeth, accused Ager of selling out to monied interests.
Tim’s Take: Inclusion in the “Red to Blue” program does not necessarily mean Democrats will prioritize Ager’s long-shot campaign over more competitive districts. But it does effectively mean that Washington DC Democrats are showing who they support in the competitive primary. The DCCC clearly does not want a progressive candidate who will shake up the status quo in DC.
