National Outlet Uncovers Cooper’s Tactic Of Reusing Old Photos To Cover Up His Lackluster Schedule
Today, the National Review reported that Senate candidate former Governor Roy Cooper has been reusing old campaign photos to make it look like he’s aggressively meeting voters on the campaign trail. The reality is that Cooper makes rare, carefully controlled appearances with little to no public access. The article highlighted several instances where Cooper’s team used old photos from 2024 and 2023 and tried to present them as moments from the campaign trail in 2025.
“Radical Roy Cooper is ducking voters and sneaking around the state to hide from tough questions,” said NCGOP Communications Director Matt Mercer. “This bunker strategy is designed for candidates who want another title on their resume instead of serving the interest of North Carolina families.”
Cooper’s strategy is a near perfect example of Chuck Schumer’s “windowless basement” strategy. In 2019, North Carolina Democrat Jeff Jackson was caught revealing that as Chuck Schumer was recruiting him to run for Senate, Schumer said that Jackson would need to make fundraising calls in “windowless basement” with the vast majority of the funds going toward negative attacks.
“Roy Cooper is hiding in Chuck Schumer’s windowless basement because he’s scared of being held accountable for his long list of failures including abandoning North Carolinians devastating by hurricanes and putting the radical left’s agenda above the needs of North Carolina families,” said NRSC Press Secretary Nick Puglia.
As the country dealt with the COVID pandemic, Democrats like Joe Biden and Roy Cooper used this as an excuse to avoid campaigning and public scrutiny. Biden infamously campaigned from his basement in Delaware, holding Zoom rallies and interviews with left-leaning journalists. When Biden became President, it became clear to most Americans that he was unfit for office, but he only made it there because he hid from the public during the 2020 campaign.
In 2020, Cooper followed Biden’s lead in hiding from voters and avoiding the public and conservative media. During the campaign, Cooper’s only unfiltered appearance was when he violated his own COVID orders to march with defund the police protestors. And his COVID press conferences excluded conservative media outlets like the North State Journal, Carolina Journal, and Brett Jensen at WBT.
During his second term as Governor, Cooper remained laser focused on pushing a radical agenda, in what looked like an audition for Biden’s potential second term. Cooper vetoed legislation requiring Sheriff’s to cooperate with federal immigration officials, at the height of Biden’s border crisis. When North Carolina state lawmakers responded to popular demand by passing a universal school choice program, Cooper declared a state of emergency over the idea of letting parents choose the school that’s best for their family instead of forcing them into a government program. Finally, Cooper worked overtime to help Biden then Kamala to defeat President Trump.
