N.C. House Passes Sportsman’s Voter Act

Last Wednesday, in a unanimous 109 – 0 vote, the North Carolina House passed House Bill 834, the Sportsman’s Voter Act. This legislation requires that state agencies offer North Carolina residents the opportunity to vote and to become an organ donor, while completing the process for a hunting, fishing or trapping license.

  • State law already requires the Department of Motor Vehicles to conduct a similar voter registration effort, and this move expands the opportunities North Carolinians have to register to vote.

What They Are Saying:

N.C. Representative Johanthan L. Almond said, “I’m extremely proud to have introduced this piece of legislation. Anytime you have an opportunity to do some good on two fronts, in one bill, it’s a good day. Not only will The Sportsman’s Voter Act help to increase voter participation across North Carolina, but it will also provide an opportunity to register for organ donation to those who may not have considered it before. I want to thank my co-sponsors, Representative Neal Jackson and Huneycutt, for their assistance in getting this bill to the floor. This bi-partisan bill received unanimous support from my colleagues, and I look forward to the Senate sending it to the Governor.”
