N.C. Senator Bobby Hanig announces Congressional Campaign for North Carolina's First District
Today, North Carolina State Senator Bobby Hanig announced his campaign for the North Carolina First Congressional District. Hanig currently serves as a State Senator representing North Carolina’s First Senate District, which mostly covers the Outer Banks and Elizabeth City region. Before serving in the Senate, Hanig served two terms in the North Carolina House.
In his announcement, Hanig said, “I am proud to announce my candidacy for United States Congress and the first Congressional District of North Carolina. I’m running because Northeastern North Carolina deserves true conservative leadership that will fight for our community and the America First Agenda.”
He added, “I’m a proven leader who has always been a fierce advocate for my constituents and our shared values and beliefs. I will continue that fight when I get to Washington. I believe in President Trump’s America First Agenda and my record in the legislature backs it up. I’ve cut taxes for North Carolina families, toughened border control in the state, stood up for life, and defended our Second Amendment rights.”
Hanig owns a small business and is an Army veteran. After his service in the Army, he moved to Currituck County, where he successfully operated his business for over 25 years. A self-made entrepreneur, he founded two companies and built one from a solo operation into a thriving business serving more than 400 properties on the Outer Banks.
Hanig announcement sets up a competitive primary against Rocky Mount Mayor Sandy Roberson, who announced last April. In his announcement, Roberson included the endorsement from Laurie Buckout, who previously ran and committed to a significant self-funding effort.
In response to Hanig’s announcement, Roberson said, "Bobby Hanig is a friend and I know he, like me, cares about the people of this district. But beating Don Davis won't be easy. It requires someone who has shown they can win in Democrat areas like Rocky Mount, who can amass massive resources required to win this kind of race, and is well-known in the most populous parts of the district. It also requires someone who didn't publicly campaign against President Trump in the last presidential primary. For all those reasons and more, I believe I'm the best candidate to win this seat in November and I look forward to doing just that."
