NCGOP launches digital campaign highlighting Cooper’s record on supporting illegal aliens

The North Carolina Republican Party of North Carolina launched its first digital campaign targeting U.S. Senate Candidate former Governor Roy Cooper with a throwback ad highlighting Cooper’s record on immigration issues. The new initiative features an ad from the Republican Governors’ Association during the 2020 campaign, featuring Cooper’s opposition to common-sense immigration legislation.

The old ad showcased Cooper’s veto of legislation that would require sheriffs to cooperate with federal immigration officials. The result of Cooper’s vetoes was that hundreds of illegal aliens who were arrested for committing a crime were released back onto North Carolina streets instead of being deported.

NCGOP Chairman Jason Simmons said, “The Senate race will come down to whether North Carolinians want someone who will work with President Trump to continue rebuilding the economy and ending illegal immigration or someone who will go back to the failed policies of Joe Biden and Kamala Harris. We know where Roy Cooper will go: the Democrat establishment that brought us 40-year high inflation, Green New Deal, and skyrocketing prices, and millions of illegal immigrants once again flooding the Southern border."

Tim’s Take: During Trump’s first term, Democrats across America and North Carolina decided to resist the administration’s effort to deport illegal aliens who committed additional crimes in our country. At the time, the polling was split on these divisive issues. Now, after Biden’s open border policy, Americans broadly support Trump’s immigration agenda.  The problem for Roy Cooper is that his record is deeply unpopular with today’s North Carolina voters.
