North Carolina Troopers Association Endorsed Michael Whatley For Senate

Yesterday, the North Carolina Troopers Association (NCTA) officially endorsed Michael Whatley for Senate. The NCTA advocates and supports members of the North Carolina State Highway Patrol by promoting policies and legislation that strengthen law enforcement and improve criminal justice system.

“Troopers and law enforcement officers across this state want leaders who Back the Blue and stand up for public safety,” saidRetired North Carolina State Trooper Richard Maness and NCTA Representative. “Michael Whatley will stand with us, fight for North Carolina, and put America First.”

NCTA represents the North Carolina Highway Patrol, which directly reported to former North Carolina Governor Roy Cooper for eight years. Members of NCTA worked closely with Cooper on crime-related issues. Law enforcement leaders noted that under Cooper, North Carolina became significantly less safe.

What They Are Saying:

  • “Law enforcement officers across North Carolina are seeing the consequences of weak leadership and soft-on-crime policies,” said Daniel Redford, President of Fraternal Order of Police Lodge #9 in Charlotte. “Roy Cooper pushed cashless bail and pretrial release into our criminal justice system, allowing repeat offenders back onto our streets.”

  • “Our officers want leaders who respect the rule of law and support the men and women who put on the badge every day,” said Chet Effler, President, North Carolina Fraternal Order of Police. “Roy Cooper’s soft-on-crime policies have made our jobs harder and our communities less safe.”

  • “When politicians ignore the law and push policies that allow criminals back onto the streets, the consequences are real for our communities,” said Sheriff Darren Campbell, Iredell County. “Roy Cooper released thousands of inmates, including violent offenders. North Carolinians deserve better. Michael Whatley will put law-abiding families first and make public safety a priority.”

  • “Public safety should never be a partisan issue, but the policies we’ve seen out of Raleigh have made our communities less safe,” said Sheriff Van Shaw, Cabarrus County. “Sanctuary-style policies and officials who refuse to enforce immigration laws undermine the rule of law. Michael Whatley understands that safe communities start with strong leadership and support for law enforcement.”

  • “As sheriffs, our responsibility is to protect the people we serve,” saidSheriff Alan Norman, Cleveland County. “Policies like cashless bail and mass inmate releases have put dangerous individuals back into our communities. Michael Whatley will work to restore accountability in our criminal justice system and ensure law enforcement has a partner in Washington.”
